The Opportunity

Are you an accountant that prefers to be out in the business that sat at home crunching the data?

Are you someone equally comfortable talking to operational managers and colleagues as finance colleagues?

Do you pride yourself on the ability to get under the skin of the numbers and create a bridge between finance and non finance areas?

This is out and out business partnering.  You’ll be physically sat outside of the central finance team and out in the business unit.  It’s a chance to get a really valuable real-time insight into project progress, spending, project-focused cash management, cost trends, forecasts, challenges and opportunities in the business.

You’ll be gaining a vital awareness of the genuine levers of success within each high scale and high profile project.  It’s a role that requires you to have the communication skills and commerciality to build trust with non finance colleagues.

It’s away from the month end grind and more focused around added value analysis, reporting, challenge and influential finance business partnering.

It’s an operational construction / manufacturing / engineering type setting and you need to be someone who enjoys getting out into the site and seeing tangible projects develop and complete.

You’ll be working on high profile assignments for household-name customers (and with relatively big numbers). It’s an exciting, professional but down to earth setting where you can add genuine value.

You’ll be working with talented, approachable and welcoming colleagues including the head of business partnering and the Group FD.

You need:

  1. A firm baseline of core management accounting and analytical skills (perhaps coupled with CIMA or ACCA).
  2. Great interpersonal skills and ability to create superb relationships with colleagues working outside of finance.
  3. Commercial acumen, ability to spot trends and link the messages from project managers to the financials that are coming to life.
  4. Confidence when discussing financial data and commentary with a senior non finance audience.
  5. Ability to analyse data and use common sense to bring real life and credible summaries to the numbers + Great Excel skills.
  6. Confidence when working with a reasonable degree of autonomy.

If you are a commercially aware accountant looking for a role where your focus is added value business partnering rather than financial accounting then this is one for you!  Site Based (on the Wirral) – easily commutable Liverpool or Wirral.
