The Opportunity

This is a fantastic role for an ambitious Credit Controller / Accounts Assistant / Finance Assistant looking for a broad remit and real progression & career growth opportunity.

This role is ideal for someone relatively new to their finance journey and looking to join a supportive, growing team, working directly with a highly approachable and knowledgeable Financial Controller and Group Finance Director.

The core remit initially will focus on ownership of credit control activities for the business – ensuring there are robust credit control processes in place and a methodical approach to ensuring payments are received in a timely fashion. You will develop excellent relationships with core customers and ensure any invoice-related / payment related queries are swiftly resolved.

The role will develop into a wider fully-fledged Assistant Accountant / Assistant Management Accountant role (where you will support month-end and period end duties, including accruals, prepayments, and journal entries).

Your remit will include:

  • Proactively managing the credit control process including monitoring outstanding invoicing, building relationships with clients and ensuring payments are proactively and diligently chased.
  • Processing invoices, account statements, and monitoring payments to reduce debtor days and improve cashflow
  • Being the point of contact for customer queries, taking a proactive approach to resolving any issues and escalating where necessary
  • Accurate and timely payment allocation
  • Assist with sales ledger administration and accurate maintenance of debtor accounts.
  • Bank reconciliations.
  • Work with operational teams to ensure accurate invoicing and resolving discrepancies
  • Assisting with financial reports, aged debtor analysis, and other management information as required.

You will need:

  • Ideally some relevant experience within credit control, accounts receivable, or junior finance/accounting role
  • Firm understanding of a credit control position.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement, using initiative to identify and improve efficiencies and streamline processes where appropriate
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills — particularly in dealing with clients and maintaining relationships
  • Strong IT skills, including Excel (knowledge of Xero is desirable)
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work collaboratively within a busy finance team.
  • Enthusiasm to progress and grow alongside the business, developing broader accounting skills and perhaps undertake a professional accounting qualification (AAT / CIMA / ACCA).

You will enjoy the opportunity to develop, gaining valuable transactional accounting and credit control experience
