The Opportunity

Professional SME based in Chesterfield (a thriving subsidiary of a VC backed group of companies based in Yorkshire) have a newly created opportunity for a Finance Manager (joining them on a permanent but part time basis, 3 to 4 days per week).

You are effectively the number 1 in finance for the business on a day to day basis – reporting to the MD locally and the portfolio FD (based at another site in Yorkshire). 

The initial remit is a bit of an overhaul – the subsidiary is doing fantastically well in terms of revenue, growth and profit but there is work to be done in terms of developing the commercial reporting and MI. 

You’ll be streamlining and redesigning the management accounts pack and developing a suite of added value reports to shine a light on revenue streams, profit drivers, costs, cashflow forecasts, budgets and performance against expectation etc…

It’s a hands on role where you’ll enjoy plenty of autonomy with the comfort blanket of an FD at the end of the phone (she is absolutely lovely by the way – hugely approachable, supportive – someone who will be a superb mentor).

It’s an ambitious group with a keenness to invest in further growth and diversification.  You’ll have chance to make a real impact and be part of the local leadership team for the subsidiary (a business of £4m turnover).  

The role will offer superb work life balance – you will ideally work 3 – 4 days per week.

You will ideally be:

  • A qualified finance professional (ACCA, ACA or CIMA).
  • Comfortable in a standalone role with plenty of autonomy .
  • Happy in a position which is home based for the majority of the time.
  • Experienced in producing detailed management accounts / packs which include added value MI alongside the standard P&L/Balance sheet. 
  • Hands on and comfortable in a growing SME of <£5m turnover. 
  • Highly competant when it comes to systems – you will need solid Excel skills and ideally experience of Sage.
